"This year, or this month, or, more likely, this very day, we have failed to practice ourselves the kind of behaviour we expect from other people."

Romans 12:1 says, "I beseech you brethern, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a "living" sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your "reasonable service".   That verse in no way allows suicide!

I'm not using this verse to say God doesn't allow suicide, and I am not "miss Quoting" scripture either.  You are not presenting your bodies as a reasonable service if you kill yourself .  I know that the verse wasn't there to discuss suicide, but not many are since Judas is really one of the few examples we have in the Bible who commited suicide.  And Judas walked with Jesus and was His deciple, but I don't believe he is in Heaven. So this "once saved, always saved" is really the miss quote that we should worry about.  This misconseption hinders a lot of people from truely getting their lives together.

I've already stated, I agree with your point, just not the scripture chosen to support it, because, like I said, it is being used out of context. If Paul talking about not having to sacrifice animals, but instead, live our lives in a way that is a living sacrifice to him, it can't also mean something about suicide. I'd also be careful about using the words of one particular translation to make a point, and instead study the different translations in an attempt to better understand what he was trying to say. For example, rather than calling it Reasonable service, the NIV called it your "spiritual act of worship", whereas if you read the verse in the NLT it words it like this "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask?" I'm not saying one is better than the other, but rather that harping on one word that seems to help your point, or just using a scripture that seems to work because of a lack of others that seem to talk about it. I'll end by saying again, I agree with your point, and what your trying to say, but if someone is arguing a similar point to me, but using incorrect scripture to back that up, it is also my duty to let them know that, because it reflects on them, and me, who is making a similar point. I'll leave this on your site too, in case you don't check back here, but I want to make the point that i wasn't coming at you, but rather just trying to help correct you. This way in the future, it'll help you use scripture the way it was meant to, in proper context.

God Bless, Derek

First of all, every Bible scholar knows the NIV has many errors.  I use the New King James version. (I know, they all have some flaws)

You contradict yourself brother.  I don't think you are an expert in the Bible, if you can't see "that all scripture is given by inspiration of  God and is profitable.. "

Again, I did not use "incorrect" scripture, and you are being way too arrogant in your assumption that that scripture was used incorrectly.  If you can't understand that simple reference, you need to go to Bible School.  I have gone  to two, and have studied and had many conversations with my brother who teaches Hebrew and Greek and has two doctor degrees, PhD in  Theology.  So please don't patronize me and speek with such condenscension ok?   Because I know, that you know, that I am correct

Wow, I guess this is the last time I try to help you out again. I know you're not right, but if you are to proud to see that, so be it. Trying to tell me that I can't see "that all scripture is given by inspiration of  God and is profitable.." a nice way of twisting what I was saying. I appreciate it might I add. It is really the most respectful way to debate. However, it certainly seems that you are misconstruing the idea that you can't take a piece of scripture, that was never meant to be dealing with a certain subject, and make it about that, as, me somehow saying the scripture isn't useful. I won't claim to be an "expert" on anything, but even someone who knows the basics on exegeting a passage, will know that wasn't used in proper context. I'd be happy to get the opinion of a former professor of mine from "bible college" to share his thoughts on this, I'm confident he'd be willing to, if you don't want to take my word on it. He also happens to have a PHD, I believe in theo also, but I could be wrong.

God Bless, and I'd appreciate if you don't come to my page and talk down to me again. Nor make assumptions about me personally. I never said anything about you, and even made multiple attempts to make the point I agreed with what you were trying to say, but was also trying to be helpful to you. Oh well, I guess I suck for that...

Mind if I ask you questions about God ?? Ok : Is it wrong to be a christian and want to hide your pains from non christians becasue you want to show them you are different?? I just want to get another view on this because my youth pastor told me that I need to be a good witness so swallow my emotions and get on with life. Do you agree?? Just wondering. If you really feel uncomfortable just tell me to bug off, I like to know the truth.

Excuse me if I've introduced myself before, I've visited a lot of Christians here on Xanaga, but I don't think I've commented on you before. Anyway, I'm new to Xanga, I just wanted to say I think this is so neat how we can share our ideas with each other, even though some things might be a bit personal and seem odd for random people to comment on, but at the same time it lets us all get advice that might otherwise never be available!

I am trying to offer free Bibles to the world! I get a small amount of money when people click the ads on my page. Overtime this ads up and lets me send out free bibles, so please tell others so I can get more visitors and hopefully raise money for free bibles. Thank you so much!

Thank you!!!
